Football News: Grieve hatrick keeps Cirencester on Top

Walford College 3 Cirencester College 4

Cirencester College Men’s first team remain at the top of the ECFA Cat 2  Premier League, yesterday with a 4-3 win over Walford College. Cirencester recovered from being 3-0 down to win 3-4  with  top scorer Dan Grieve scoring a hatrick in the second half. Cirencester conceded three goals in the first twenty five minutes of the game through a combination of  lack of concentration and poor decision making. Essa Sabally reduced the arrears with a superb shot from outside the area that finished in the top corner of the net.

The second half saw Cirencester start to dominate the game and putting the Walford defence under pressure they were awarded several corners. Dan Grieve  then fired home after a fine through ball from midfielder Matthew Grabe. Walford were now relaying on sporadic  counter attacks and were twice denied by outstanding saves from Cirencester goalkeeper Billy King. Dan grieve then scored his second goal in the 60th minute turning in the box and smashing the ball in to the far corner of the net. Top scorer Grieve completed his hatrick in the 85th minute with a header at the near post from a Matt Grabe corner from the right. Cirencester defended superbly in the dying minutes to leave North Wales with all 3 points and remain top of the league with 3 games to play.
