Apprenticeship and Vocational Graduation 2017

Apprenticeship and vocational students, who graduated from their courses at Cirencester Sixth Form College, celebrated their success at an Awards event on July 5th.  The numbers attending had doubled since last year with more than 70 students supported by their parents, grandparents, lecturers and apprenticeship employers were recognised for their outstanding achievements.

Vice Principal, Libby Reed, welcomed visitors and introduced Mike Hellens, a retired local businessman, who for 22 years led a large independent media buying and advertising company.  Mike is Vice Chair of Cirencester College’s Corporation and Chair of Cirencester College’s Business and Finance Career Ready programme.   He congratulated all the graduates on their successes and praised the role that professional vocational and apprenticeship qualifications have in preparing young people for university and employment.

Mike presented certificates to all of the graduates,  then course lecturers gave citations and awards to the  students nominated as “Students of the Year,” it was acknowledged that these decisions had been exceptionally hard with such a dedicated group of students.  The students selected had all excelled in their courses some through personal adversity.  They were:

 

Business – Mauricio Ferreira, Hannah Johnson, Troy Livingstone

Animal Management – Charley Andrew

Countryside Management – Rhys Davies

Media – Abi Farrell

Performing Arts – Gabe Howell

Uniformed Public Services – Ayala Trinder      

Amy Corrie – Sport

Jim Grant, the Principal of Cirencester College, thanked staff and families for their encouragement, which enabled the students to gain excellent results.

After the ceremony students, apprentices, staff and guests enjoyed  a barbecue lunch in the sunshine, before leaving to start the next stage of their careers.
