The aim of this project is to reward the hardest working and most enthusiastic students with the opportunity to complete work experience with prestigious Law firms to support their university or job applications in the future. The students were put through their paces throughout the year with skill sessions devoted to CV writing, interview preparations and professionalism in order to improve and develop their employability skills.
BPE Solicitors LLP (Cheltenham), Francis George Solicitor-Advocate (Swindon) and Sewell Mullings Logie LLP (Cirencester) all offered their time to interview the students in order for the students to obtain the experience of this process. This was invaluable to the students who then went to these firms to complete for their placements where they completed individual tasks, work with solicitors and eventually created a portfolio of evidence detailing their experiences.
Course Team Leader for Law, Daniel Nield, started up the Society for students to expand their understanding of the legal world and to advance their knowledge and skills in this sector. Daniel said ‘the firms that have given up their time and effort cannot be thanked enough. They have given these students a real glimpse into the legal profession in a way that I cannot do in the classroom. The students have loved it!’
Leah Boswell who attended SML in Cirencester said that ‘the Law society was extremely helpful as it gave me an insight into the work of a solicitors. The experience with SML was very interesting and something that I would recommend to anyone.’
Charles Whelan whilst at Francis George said that ‘the Law Society set me up well for the way I am working at the firm. Namely the collaborative nature of our interview preparation and the way you helped us to improve our portfolios – it’s really exciting.’
