Ofsted validates College’s impressive track record

A long-awaited Ofsted visit to Cirencester College has confirmed a high level of ‘good’ with significant outstanding features across all categories. Ofsted said that ‘senior leaders have maintained many of the good achievements identified in the previous inspection’, which was in 2007, and built on this by ‘developing the curriculum thoughtfully and thoroughly in collaboration with employers and the LEPs’ having ‘listened carefully to students and parents.’

Ofsted had high praise for the College’s students saying that they are ‘highly motivated to learn’, ‘enjoy their studies’ and that they ‘speak eloquently about their experience at the College’. They are ‘confident and positive about their learning and realising their ambitions’ and that their ‘behaviour is exemplary’. Ofsted commented on the very high rates of achievement in English and maths and that ‘a very high proportion of students move on to high-performing universities, apprenticeships or employment,’ ‘many into prestigious universities’.

The report highlights the ‘comprehensive variety of enrichment’ such as sports, health and wellbeing activities and ‘most students benefit from work experience and work related learning’ with opportunities to take ‘additional qualifications to help them to develop skills for their future careers’.

Employers working with Cirencester College told inspectors that they ‘value highly the contribution that apprentices make to their businesses. Ofsted noted that ‘most apprentices completing their programme continue on to permanent positions with their existing employer’.

Even the buildings got a positive mention in the report – ‘accommodation (classrooms) and resources for students are very good…students benefit from modern, spacious and well-equipped studios’ and ‘industry standard digital media equipment’.

Principal Jim Grant has said that he is pleased that Ofsted identified so much of the College’s good work in the report, he said that ‘the small minority of recommended adjustments, such as tracking the impact of work experience, have already been made for the current year’. Mr Grant added ‘I’m very proud of our students and staff and of how much we achieve every year. It is good to see that Ofsted is confident that our ‘students are very well supported’ to ensure ‘high standards of achievement’ and they ‘enjoy their learning experience at Cirencester College.’’
